NAFC Employee Honored for Professional Achievement and Community Involvement

NAFC Health Educator Chosen as One of Charleston's "Forty Under 40"

April 28, 2009 (Charleston, South Carolina) – The National Association For Continence (NAFC) announced today that Rachel Levkowicz, Manager of Health Education and Member Services, has been chosen as one of Charleston Regional Business Journal’s “Forty Under 40” award recipients for 2009. Recipients were nominated by colleagues and selected by a committee of past winners who looked for professional achievement combined with a track record of giving back to the community.

Levkowicz, a New Orleans native and graduate of the College of Charleston, joined NAFC in 2006. After two years, at the age of 24, she was promoted from Associate to Manager for Health Education and Member Services. In addition to advising consumers who call NAFC’s information line (1-800-BLADDER) with questions regarding symptoms they or loved ones are experiencing, she also coordinates updates of NAFC publications and conducts educational presentations to consumers and healthcare professionals. Levkowicz is responsible for managing the majority of the content on NAFC’s Web site, www.nafc.org - a site that receives approximately 25,000 visitors per month.

One of several individuals who recommended Levkowicz for this recognition, Nancy Muller, Executive Director of NAFC, stated “In over 30 years of working in a variety of fields…I have never had the privilege of managing an individual as bright and as passionate for all she does, both in the job and in the community.”

Levkowicz is also active in the Charleston community and in her neighborhood’s Civic Club, responsible for selecting “Yard of the Month” during the spring and summer. Currently, she is organizing and overseeing a science fair for fifth and sixth graders at W. J. Fraser Elementary School, a Charleston public school with over 90 percent of its students living below the established poverty level. She has solicited funding and donations, recruited and managed mentors for the students, and organized all activities.

“Ms. Levkowicz has truly been a tremendous help to our school this year as she has worked diligently in coordinating our Science Fair. She has unselfishly given her time and talents,” said Valerie Muhammad, Science Lab Teacher at Fraser. “Her assistance, dedication, and sacrifice are greatly appreciated by all of us that have worked with her here at W. J. Fraser Elementary School.”

The “Forty Under 40” awards are an “annual event to recognize 40 local business and professional leaders living and doing business in the Charleston community who are making their mark with professional and community involvement and are under 40 years of age,” according to the Charleston Regional Business Journal’s Web site. An awards ceremony is scheduled for May 19 to which the public is invited.
