National Association For Continence Board of Directors Elects New Members

The Board of Directors for the National Association For Continence recently elected six new members and re-elected an existing member for three-year terms.

December 30, 2008 (Charleston, South Carolina) – The National Association For Continence (NAFC) announced the election of six new members to its Board of Directors for three-year terms beginning November 2008. The Board provides oversight for the direction and operations of the non-profit consumer education and advocacy organization headquartered in Charleston.

The newly elected members of the Board are as follows:

• John Adams is an attorney with Schiff Hardin, LLP in Chicago. Mr. Adams has been involved with continence care issues most of his adult life, serving as a founding member of the Worldwide Fistula Fund which provides care for women in Africa who have sustained catastrophic childbirth injuries. He also serves on the boards of three U.S. hospitals.

• Rodney Appell, MD, FACS, is the Director of the Texas Continence Center at the Vanguard Urologic Institute in Houston, Texas. He is also Clinical Professor in the Department of Urology at the University of Texas Health Science Center and Professor of Urology and Gynecology and Chief of the Division of Voiding Dysfunction and Female Urology at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston. For the past 25 years, Dr. Appell has frequently been invited as visiting professor or speaker at numerous national and international society meetings, symposia, and conferences.

• Cheryl LeCroy, MSN, RN, is Clinical Coordinator with the Virginia Women’s Continence Center in Richmond, Virginia. She has worked in urology since 1991 and began specializing in continence care and urodynamics in 1994. She is the past national chairperson for the Society of Urologic Nurses and Associates’ (SUNA) annual symposium and conference and is SUNA’s Northeast Regional Director.

• Judd Moul, MD, FACS, is Professor and Chief of the Division of Urologic Surgery and Director of the Duke Prostate Center at Duke University Medical Center in Durham, North Carolina. Dr. Moul serves on the editorial boards of Urology, Journal of Urology and World Journal of Urology, and is Editor of Prostate Cancer and Prostatic Diseases. In 2004, he completed a 26-year U.S. Army career, retiring as a full Colonel in the Medical Corps.

• Orlando Padilla is the Director of Corporate and Government Relations for General Motors Corporation in Detroit. Mr. Padilla has been with General Motors since 1976, beginning his career as an engineer with the automaker. He has received several awards and honors including being named one of Hispanic Business magazine’s “100 Most Influential Hispanics” in 2000, the 2001 Chairman’s Award from the US Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, and the Latin Business Spirit Award from Latin Business magazine in 2006.

• Alex Te, MD, is the Associate Professor of Urology at the Weill Medical College of Cornell University and Director of the Brady Prostate Center as well as co-Director of Urodynamics in the Department of Urology at New York Presbyterian Hospital. Dr. Te is a leader in the area of minimally invasive therapies for the treatment of benign prostate hyperplasia, as well as the evaluation and treatment of incontinence and chronic pelvic floor disorders in men and women.

In addition, Niall Galloway, MB, FRCS, FRCSE, was re-elected to the Board for a second term. Dr. Galloway is the founder and director of Emory University’s Continence Center in Atlanta where he is also an Associate Professor of Urology. Dr. Galloway came to the U.S. from Scotland when he was invited by Duke University to be a research fellow and later a faculty member. He has received numerous awards of distinction, including the annual medal of the British Association of Urological Surgeons.
