Breann Garbas, PA-C, Continence Care Champion
At the annual meeting of the Association of Physician Assistants in Obstetrics and Gynecology (APAOG) held recently in San Antonio, Breann Garbas, PA-C, was named a Continence Care Champion.
May 29, 2008 (Charleston, SC) — This award is given by the National Association For Continence (NAFC) to specially selected individuals who demonstrate leadership in the field of incontinence through accomplishments in research, enrichment of clinical practice, and education. Garbas, a resident of South Carolina, now joins 48 other Continence Care Champion award recipients honored since 2000, including Betsy Omeis, RN, 2003 Continence Care Champion award recipient, who presented the honor on Tuesday, May 27. All recipients are housed in a Hall of Fame on NAFC’s web site at www.nafc.org/media/continence-care-champions.
The Continence Care Champion award selection process began as the APAOG Board of Directors first nominated members of its association who exhibit exemplary contributions in the field with the goal of advancing continence care. The NAFC Board of Directors subsequently chose an individual from those nominees.
Ms. Garbas is currently a physician assistant at Carolina Women’s Care in Summerville, South Carolina, where she has been employed for the past three years. She received her master’s degree in Physician Assistant Studies from the Medical University of South Carolina. Ms. Garbas has always had a passion for learning, which was evident during her undergraduate studies at Ball State University, where she graduated with honors in biology research. Her dedication to providing quality healthcare has been a constant throughout her academic and professional careers. NAFC Executive Director Nancy Muller noted Ms. Garbas’ undeniable attention that she gives her patients, by stating, “ She is where patient care happens and where communication connects to make a difference.”
Among the several professional organizations of which Ms. Garbas is an active member, APAOG is especially energized by her unique approaches in the field. APAOG President Sylvia S. Chen, MMS, PA-C, shared her respect for Ms. Garbas, by stating, “As healthcare providers, we are all committed to supplying the best possible service to patients. Breann goes the extra distance to insure her patients are not just cared for, but examined thoroughly and treated accurately. Her vivacious outlook is one that each one of us can aspire to have.”
