October 22, 2007 (Charleston, SC) — The honor is based on contributions in the field of incontinence towards research, education, and advances in clinical practice. Individuals are nominated by members of the society and an award recipient is then selected by representatives of NAFC’s Board of Directors.

Diana Hankey Underwood, MS, RN-C, WHNP, is a nurse practitioner (NP) and adjunct clinical instructor at the State University of New York at Buffalo currently working on local, national and international projects to help people improve their quality of life. She is Executive Director of Grace Anatomy, Inc., a charitable and educational non-profit organization, whose purpose is to guide, aid and assist individuals and medical providers to enhance health and reduce stigma from physical conditions such as incontinence and birth defects and/or their associated psychological conditions, through research, imparting relevant information, sharing of resources, experiences and ideas among people who have or who treat these conditions.

Ms. Underwood received a Masters of Parent Child Nursing from the University of Michigan. Susan Wysocki, RNC, NP, FAANP, President and CEO of NPWH shares her enjoyment in learning of Ms. Underwood’s CCC award by stating, “[NPWH] is grateful to have her as a part of our team! With her dedication to continence care and natural interest in people’s welfare, we all have a lot to learn from her. She maintains an energetic disposition and contagious positive attitude that we should all strive to have.” Ms. Underwood has recently created an educational program that is approved for reimbursement by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Western New York.
