John Lavelle, MD

Dr. John P. Lavelle is an associate professor of urology at the Stanford Department of Urology.  He works primarily at the Veterans Administration Palo Alto Health Care System. His clinical practice specializes in neurourology and provides urological services the SCI and Polytrauma units of the VAPAHCS. Dr. Lavelle's research interests include patient outcomes, neurogenic bladder, overactive bladder, incontinence and benign prostatic hyperplasia. 

Originally from Ireland, Dr. Lavelle studied Medicine at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland graduating in 1984. He earned a postgraduate degree in Medical Science from the National University of Ireland in 1986, primarily in Anatomy.  He completed  his Fellowship in General Surgery at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland in 1989. In 1990, Dr. Lavelle moved to the United States. He was a Research Fellow at the University of Iowa from 1990-1993. He completed his Urology residency at the University of Pittsburgh in 1998 followed by an AFUD fellowship with Dr. Chancellor.
