Title: NAFC Honors Dr. Roger Dmochowski with Continence Care Champion Award
Roger Dmochowski, MD, of Vanderbilt University in Nashville receives NAFC's Rodney Appell Continence Care Champion Award at annual Society for Urodynamics and Female Urology meeting.
February 26, 2009 (Charleston, South Carolina) – The National Association For Continence (NAFC) announced Roger Dmochowski, MD, as the latest recipient of the organization’s Rodney Appell Continence Care Champion award. Dr. Dmochowski received the award February 26 at the Society for Urodynamics and Female Urology’s (SUFU) annual meeting in Las Vegas.
Dr. Dmochowski, is a highly published physician with numerous clinical journal articles, book chapters and abstracts to his credit. A professor of urology at Vanderbilt University, he is Director of Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Urology Fellowship. The surgeon has received a “best reviewer” commendation from both the Journal of Urology and European Urology and currently serves on eight editorial boards of clinical journals. Dr. Dmochowski also serves on ten boards and professional society committees, including the American Urological Association (AUA) and the International Continence Society (ICS). He was a member of NAFC’s Board of Directors for five years.
“This year’s award, like all those before it, recognizes the contributions of an individual who sets the bar for others in the continence care field in research, education and advances in clinical practice,” stated Meg Hansen, NAFC’s Membership and Fund Development Associate, who presented the award at SUFU’s meeting. Dr. Dmochowski has also received the Zimskind Award from SUFU for his accomplishment in clinical treatment for incontinence, as well as AUA’s Presidential Citation.
Established in 2000 to recognize healthcare providers who excel in the area of diagnosis, treatment, and management, NAFC’s Continence Care Champion Award raises awareness and elevates the importance of addressing incontinence in clinical practice. Chosen among nominees ranging from freestanding, private practices to groups of departments working collaboratively across an entire medical center complex, this award recognizes an outstanding clinic or individual on the basis of contributions to research, clinical practice standards, and education in the field of incontinence. Dr. Dmochowski was nominated by SUFU, and representatives of NAFC’s Board of Directors selected the recipient. The award was sponsored by Pfizer Global Pharmaceuticals.
This award is the first to be given under its new name, the Rodney Appell Continence Care Champion Award. The award name was changed in memory of Dr. Rodney Appell, long-time NAFC Board member, distinguished urologist and surgeon, and past award recipient. Dr. Appell passed away suddenly on January 19, 2009, in Houston, Texas.
