Topic: Old forum vs. new forum

Hi everyone ,Maybe I'm wrong but it seems that there is much less participation in this forum than in the old. If I'm not mistaken didn't they reroute the old forum to this? So . What happened to everyone? Has anyone heard from Wendy?

I have not participated as much in this forum as the past. But we really need to keep exchanging information. There are a lot of people out there that think they are the only ones that have a particular bladder issue. I have been self cathing for 2 years and I think back when I first started how I felt. Like I was the only one. You always learn more from someone that has to deal with the issues on a daily basis, The Forus, than a Dr that spends less than 10 minutes with you a few times per year.

                                                                   Good luck to everyone

Re: Old forum vs. new forum

I agree Ben.  We need to continue to make an effort to post on this new forum.  It's nice to know that we are not alone in this.

Re: Old forum vs. new forum

Good post Ben!

I am guessing everyone is out there, but board is not quite as active.  I have been self cathing for 9 months.  I am so much better off than pre-cathing.  That was miserable.

Some may know this, but I stumbled across this forum in England which has people with similar problems.

Re: Old forum vs. new forum

Hi everyone,

Tom C- thanks for the link!  I'll probably try posting some over there, too.  Just wanted to agree with everyone, this is just not the same as the old forum.  I try to post as much as I can just to do my part to keep it going.  It saddens me when I see some spam postings on this forum, too.

As for Wendy, please let me know, too.  I am hoping she's okay, given all the problems she was having before the old forum shut down.

Re: Old forum vs. new forum

Your welcome, Raindropsonroses.  It is a pretty good site, with a good bunch of people that are contributors.

Re: Old forum vs. new forum

thanks Tom, looks like a very useful site

Re: Old forum vs. new forum

I am delighted to know that this Forum is back and working.  Had not checked in for several months.  I suspect that there are many former Forum users who gave up on it and have moved on to other help sites.  That long period of being "down" was enough to discourage just about anyone with a normal amount of patience.  In any event, I see that some of our old friends (i.e. Ben, Wheels, Raindrops, etc.) have stayed the course and are still there to help others with their incontinence problems.  Good for you!

Don't know if this is relevant to most site users, but I just learned that Medicare loosened up its old rule of 4 catheters a month as of April, 2008.  This may be old news to everyone else, but it was not to me.  Check out http://www.coloplastmedicare.com/ for further details.

Re: Old forum vs. new forum

It's a little difficult to answer your question.  The "old" forum was an active comprehensive internet meeting place where folks with a variety of incontinence-related issues shared experiences and offered support.  For reasons best known to the "old" forum's sponsor---it was shut down.  A subsequent effort to get it up met with technical issues----and it, too, was disbanded.  This process of start and stop and start consumed many months---and lost many of the "old" forum's most active and useful participants.

Now that you have found the "new" form----rather than dwell on the past----why don't you offer us some background information about yourself, your incontinence issues and how you are dealing with them?

Re: Old forum vs. new forum

Nobody was keeping score----so there is no answer to your question.

The "old" forum was somewhat more robust in its activity----beacuse in addition to being a self-help meeting place for folks with incontinence issues----it also became a place where such folks could receive morale support and group counseling in dealing with such issues.  That element is beginning to appear here as well.

In any event----glad that you found us.

Re: Old forum vs. new forum

The good folks who maintain this website have had a lot of problems with it recently.  They have probably discouraged many of you from returning to it.  This is most unfortunate, since it serves a useful purpose even though access to it has been inconsistent and often frustrating.  I see that it is up again.  Good!  Let's hope that it stays up for a long time!

And thanks to the website folks for their support.

I agree.

Re: Old forum vs. new forum

Hi guys,

I used to post often on the old forum but it disappeared one day. I found this site when I saw my name associated with it.  I do recognize a couple of names here. Mal, I haven't heard that name for a while. do you still live in the DC area.

I hope I can contribute helpful information here.

Millard----I recognize you as a familiar name, too!  So glad you found us again----and hope that you continue to check in on a regular basis.

The Forum folks can use all the help they can get from people like you---so welcome aboard!

Very best wishes.

Mal

PS  Havn't been in the DC area for quite a long time.  I guess we're all getting a little older!

Re: Old forum vs. new forum

Hello leejane,

There was a bladder control forum that we both contributed to. I am a spinal cord injury of 42 years and can help from this perspective. As I remember, Mal is not a SCI but had some bladder issues and he contributed heavily also.  The forum started go off and on and finally went off and didn't come back. I was running a search last week and say Mall's name on a post and remembered it. When I checked, I was still an active member so here I am.

Good luck to all...

Millard

Re: Old forum vs. new forum

As a long-time participant in the Forum, it pleases me to know about positive comments being posted regarding our "new" Forum.  However, I am concerned that we are not getting more specific issues raised for group self-help and discussion.  The last two posters to this thread tend to illustrate my concern.  They make some generalized observations, but offer nothing new and substantive to provoke reactions, responses, suggestions, etc.  We know from the past that there are folks out there who have problems and need help.  Where are they?  Why arn't we hearing from them?

To everyone who reads this post, if each of you would jump in with just one specific area of concern where you could benefit from learning about the experiences of others----the Forum would once again be moving in the right direction.

Re: Old forum vs. new forum

I guess there was too much spam on the old forums. Hopefully it won't happen here. Kudos to the folks who got it back up and running again.

Re: Old forum vs. new forum

Fiddler---I agree with you completely.  For a while, it got to be a daily effort to "police" the postings to the Forum and bring to the Administrator's attention those that contained embedded marketing links or spam messages.  To the Forum's credit, they did  their best to keep it "clean" and free of such distractions for the serious viewer.

To those of you who read this and have incontinence issues /concerns/experiences that you want to share with the larger Forum community, please do so.  The Forum is only a valuable resource if you make it so.

Re: Old forum vs. new forum

One of the big problems incontinence causes is isolation, both social and medical.  The NAFC forum is an excellent antidote for that, and it has the added benefit that we share our collective wisdom and experience.  One of my great regrets is that there was no such forum as this when I first was forced to deal with urological issues.
