Topic: Urinary Tract Infections

I'm a female that has been self-catheterizing for 3 years now.  I don't even mind self-catheterizing but my main problem is that I am constantly getting urinary tract infections.  I am VERY careful about keeping things as clean and sterile as possible when catheterizing (use gloves, use single-use only catheters, wash before & after) but somehow I just keep getting infections.  Not e.coli infections, mostly klebsiella, staph, all the weird ones that go with self-catheterizing.  I've incorporated tips that members of the old Bladder Care Forum gave me, but I still get UTI's.  I'm wondering if anyone out there has any advice for me on how to cure and prevent UTI's, preferably without antibiotics, as I've already gotten the MRSA (antibiotic resistant) bacteria in my urine before, which is a result of me taking lots of antibiotics.

If you know of any naturopathic options, please let me know.

If you know of any prophylactic medicines (e.g. Urex?  I don't know much about this yet.  Not sure if it's available in Canada where I'm from)

Please, please, I need help.

Re: Urinary Tract Infections

The one thing you did not mention (but perhaps that was through inadvertence) is whether you also use a hand sanitizer (like Purell).  When you wash, do you use an antibiotic soap as part of the process?  Are you washing long enough for the soap to do its job?  Are you using single use lube packets rather than a tube?

UTIs are troublesome and in your case more than that.  Wish you the best of luck.

Re: Urinary Tract Infections

Best advice anyone could give you is to see a urologist ASAP!

You're symptoms go beyond the scope of self-help via this Forum.

Good luck.
