Thanks to Interns
NAFC wants to acknowledge the dedication and contribution of our current and past interns. With these bright and motivated students, we have finished many projects, jumped into new endeavors, and have hopefully given them a valuable experience to take away to their successful futures.
2010
Angela Elias-Solis, a marketing major at the University of Maryland University College, engaged in an extensive amount of e-marketing. She utilized her marketing skills by researching, creating and implementing e-mail marketing campaigns, successfully bringing in many new professional members. Angela helped in our social networking outreach. She also updated our Web site, database and subject files as well.
2009
Katy Rensberry, a Communication major at the College of Charleston, engaged in a diverse set of projects including: confirming listing information for our 2010 DISCOVERIES publication, processing professional memberships using Raiser's Edge and Microsoft Mail Merge, creating the section of our Web site and corresponding with speakers for our 2009 educational forum in San Francisco, and organizing the invitation list in Microsoft Excel for our 2009 Continence Care reception. Katy was an asset to the planning of our 2009 events in San Francisco and we'll miss her!
Scott Malinoski, a Computer Science major at the College of Charleston, devoted much of his time at NAFC to projects related to our Web site. He spruced up the look and feel of the site by adding photographs and cover shots of NAFC publications online, and he added sample chapter downloads of various booklets. Harnessing his experience at Staples, he also created and posted to our online store the "Bathroom Access Card" for individuals who want a handy and discreet card to support use of public restrooms. In addition to work on the Web site, he helped with fundraising mailings and the organization of new product listings for the 2010 Discoveries. We wish Scott the best of luck at Disney and beyond!
2008
Nicole Capano, a Philosophy major at the College of Charleston, helped to post educational material from many of our print publications to our Web site. Additionally, she reformatted sections of the site for consistency, drafted a disclaimer for the clinical trial section of our site, wrote descriptions for our Online Store publications, and helped with the mailings of appeals. Our Web site is even more informative thanks to Nicole!
LaVonda Stokes, who holds a degree in culinary arts from Johnson & Wales, is currently enrolled in a business program at the College of Charleston where she is attaining a corporate communications degree. During her time with NAFC, LaVonda created our first online professional membership application which will be accessible through our Web site. She also dedicated much of her internship to researching and expanding media records for our Hispanic Outreach Project and updating contacts in our Raiser's Edge database.
Crystal Starkes, a recent college graduate, quickly learned the Raiser's Edge database to assist in running queries and sending out reminder mailings to consumers regarding their subscription status. She was also able to create customized import templates so we could easily add large numbers of records into our database.
Melissa Walker, a former dental hygienist and a communications major at the College of Charleston, did a terrific job of drafting and sending out press releases, helping to promote our new Web site, and assisting in other media efforts.
2007
Heather Klugh, a graduate of the College of Charleston, diligently worked to compile and organize data for the 2008-2009 Resource Guide®. She made follow up phone calls to companies to gather their product and contact information as well as manipulated many spreadsheets so that the data would be ready for layout.
Katheryn Nyquist, a Communication major at the College of Charleston, was chiefly responsible for the initial planning of NAFC's education consumer forum in Atlanta. She drafted press releases, contacted speakers, regularly communicated with our planning team at Emory University, and managed multiple timelines.
Katie Morse, a Communication major at the College of Charleston, helped to publicize and prepare for NAFC's continuing medical education event for Primary Care Physicians at Emory University. She drafted press releases and was responsible for staying on top of our publicity calendar for that event.
Erin Barnes, a Communication major at the College of Charleston, was heavily involved in the initial planning of NAFC's largest series of events ever: a continuing medical education events for Primary Care Physicians, a women's educational forum, and a black tie gala. She drafted multiple timelines for each event and helped to execute the initial publicity planning.
2006
William Lechner, a psychology major at the College of Charleston, possessed great passion and confidence as he helped complete two major projects that will serve as comprehensive resources for men: our new male stress urinary incontinence leaflet and our new leaflet and Web site material on enlarged prostate.
Sasha Salters, a biology major at the College of Charleston, contributed greatly to a diverse set of projects; she learned about the needs and concerns of women while entering data from our survey on pelvic organ prolapse, she assisted in fundraising and campaign planning, and compiled statistics and updated content for our revised media kit.
Katie Koval, a pre-med student at Duke University, spent a great deal of effort on our new fecal incontinence leaflet and Web site material. She exhibited a tremendous amount of commitment as she put together content on pediatric bedwetting, a new leaflet and section of our Web site. Finally, she was chiefly responsible for researching new products for our latest publication of Discoveries® 2007.
Discoveries® 2007 was passed to Megan Drake, a biology major at the College of Charleston, who has done a wonderful job with researching, editing, and compiling product literature. She has been in direct contact with industry representatives to ensure that Discoveries® 2007 is a thorough and accurate guide book for our constituents.
Branden Gary, a business administration major at the College of Charleston, whizzed through databases and Excel documents as he edited our accounting and media databases as well as updated our contact database. He also demonstrated a precise attention to detail helping to identify broken links on our Web site.
2005
Nicole Cadwell, a graduate of the College of Charleston, was involved in preliminary publicity and media planning for our 2005 educational forum at Duke University Medical Center.
Baylee Fidler, a graduate of the College of Charleston, played a significant role in our 2005 forum at Duke. She put together a planning calendar of action steps, helped with publicity and promotions associated with the forum,researched the details and logistics of mailing the ‘Save the Date’ card that she created for the event, and spent considerable time compiling information for our Discoveries® 2006.
Courtney Brown, a graduate of the College of Charleston,devoted her energy to the production of the Caregiver’s Desk Reference®. She was highly involved with the entire process; she contacted guest authors, edited content for a consistent text, researched and wrote text, and visited assisted living facilities to gather feedback from directors of healthcare.
Vanessa Singleton, a graduate of the College of Charleston,was always dependable and a pleasure to work with. She assisted NAFC’s Membership and Fund Development Manager in drafting cause-marketing letters and grant proposals.
2004
Paula Passarella, a graduate of the College of Charleston,helped produce our women’s pelvic muscle exercise kit. She updated copy for the manual, outlined the script for the video production, and researched box companies to ensurea cost effective and educational production.
Karen Kennedy, a graduate of the College of Charleston,showed a strong work ethic as she assisted staff with publicity, media relations, and on the ground logistics for our Charleston, SC forum in the spring of 2004.
Melanie Edwards, a graduate of Clemson University, did much of leg work associated with the publication of NAFC’s 2004-2005 Resource Guide®. Her contributions involved contacting companies for updated information, researching organizations and data entry.
Rena Frulla, a graduate of the College of Charleston, tapped into our working database, Raiser’s Edge, to identify constituent diagnoses based on their contact and order history. She also spent time at the public library gathering information to increase our resource section of the 2004-2005 Resource Guide®.
We strongly believe that our internships are a mutually beneficial experience for both NAFC and college students. Thanks to our interns for the tremendous work they all accomplished at NAFC!
