Internships

We currently have several outstanding internships available for individuals looking to gain valuable experience at a not-for-profit organization. We are located in historic downtown Charleston, SC and offer free parking as well as a friendly work environment.  Click here to read about what our interns have accomplished.

 

Media Database & Publicity Internship
Primary responsibilities of the Media Database & Publicity intern will be two-fold: 1) Updating the media contact database by on-line searches and telephone calls to publications; and 2) Assisting in the drafting and issuance of news releases and organizing updated content to be posted on NAFC’s web site.

This position reports directly to our Publicity and Publications Associate on staff.

Candidates need to have strong writing skills, good organizational skills, and comfort with making phone calls to companies.

The Intern will receive a $300 stipend upon successful completion of the project or with an investment of approximately 100 hours (8-10 hours/week) over the semester.

Outreach Analyst and Grantwriter Internship
Primary responsibilities of the Outreach Analyst and Grantwriter intern are to research opportunities to better serve minorities to help close the gap in health disparities experienced by Hispanics and African Americans. The Intern will help identify foundations whose goals render them good targets for funding educational programs by NAFC and assist in writing and assembling materials for grant requests. This may include time in the Reference Section of the Charleston Public Library, in addition to on-line searches.

This position reports directly to our Manager of Fund Development on staff.

Candidates need to have strong research and writing skills and an interest in outreach/minority health.

The Intern will receive a $300 stipend upon successful completion of the project or with an investment of approximately 100 hours over the course of the semester.

Web site Internship
Primary responsibilities of the Web site intern are helping to maintain the NAFC Web site's “Health On the Net” credential, posting to the Web site documents related to past educational forums, adding clinical content from print publications, enhancing the Web site’s appeal with patient testimonials and photographs, and editing in the site in general, where necessary. The intern will work in a Web site Content Management System, which allows for easy editing of the site without a formal background in computer science or Web site coding.

This position reports directly to our Health Educator on staff.

Candidates need to have strong computer skills as well as creativity. The Intern will receive a $300 stipend upon successful completion of the project or with an investment of approximately 80 hours (8-10 hours/week) over the term.
